• After many years of publishing our photographic works, we thought it was time to show you some glimpses of something different. Some of the following pictures represent tests of various kinds for Mourning the Ancient, some reflect our boredom, others are just everyday life, and others still are that grey area somewhere between Mourning the Ancient and mundane existence. Enjoy the tour of these distant and not-so-distant days...

[Below: Okay, first let me explain a few things.
I think the whole New Orleans Mardi Gras debauchery is very stupid.
Seeing all of those crowds packed together like sardines, with police patrolling on horse-back make me feel claustrophobic and sick.
But first a few words about Mardi Gras. It is a Season, not just one day. A day known as Fat Tuesday is the biggest day of the celebration and it falls anywhere from February 3rd to March 9th. It was originally meant to be 'the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season'(Wikipedia). The first Mardi Gras parade was held in New Orleans on February 24, 1857. The words 'Mardi Gras' are French for 'Fat Tuesday' and it generates over one BILLION dollars in annual spending in New Orleans! Although it is also celebrated around the world, the insanity and debauchery of Mardi Gras in New Orleans is legendary. It was made even more infamous by the exploitive video series 'Girls Gone Wild'. What made me interested in this festival was the pagan elements stamped on a vast variety of objects--coins, cups, bead necklaces, etc. etc.! Recently someone gave me a bag full of these beads depicting various pagan gods and I decided to do a few photos poking fun at it for your entertainment. I hope you like this meaningless little shoot!]
