[Below: This extremely high quality card from 1935 is from an insurance company, informing customers of a move. The building itself is quite impressive. The company, Hamburg-Mannheimer Insurance Company has since changed its name. This picture shows the front and reverse of the card. Nothing too exciting, but since it's Third Reich it is collected. Everything from the Third Reich is treasured, even old insurance cards.]

[Below: This is strange and obviously rare. It's not in the best shape, but when you are dealing with rare items condition doesn't matter as much, it's nice to just have an example. So what is this? Let's see what it says: 'Christmas Special Card - For ordinary consumers and non-agricultural self-sufficient individuals over 18 years of age - Valid from December 13, 1943 to February 6, 1944'. The ink stamp says Dresden. The reverse is blank.]

[Below: This train ticket is from the 1940s during the German occupation of Poland. The ticket is from Krotoschin to Horleburg oder Dieterslinde (both places in modern day Poland), for a whopping bank-breaking 0.60 pfennig (cents). It's amazing the stuff that survives wars and the ravishes of time. Why someone saved this ticket in the first place is a mystery. Front/reverse.]

As you can read from the translation, it involves the surrender of Czechoslovakia, dated March 15, 1939. On the right is the original German version and on the left the translated English version.]

  • The following are items from the 'Nationalsozialistischer Rechtswahrerbund' (National Socialist Association of Legal Professionals, or NSRB). This organization was for legal professionals (lawyers, judges, public prosecutors, notaries and legal academics).

    'Dear Madam!

    'Dear Madam!

Mrs. Agnes Franssen requests that I forward to you the request of her two children for a picture of their deceased father. Should you not wish to send it directly, I suggest you send me the picture for forwarding.']

[Below: This document, from June 13, 1939, says:

    'Dear Madam!

Mrs. Agnes Franssen has finally agreed to the latest proposal. Her lawyer writes as follows:

"In the Franssen estate case, my client accepts the settlement proposal you made in your letter of May 23. She therefore waives maintenance payments from Mrs. Else Franssen and her son in exchange for a payment of 1200 RM. The amounts paid to date are not included in this payment and will not be offset against it."

Thus, all remaining differences that stood in the way of the settlement would be resolved. I am now preparing everything so that the guardianship court can approve the settlement. It is possible that the local district court will declare itself incompetent. It recently inquired about your current address. Therefore, it is to be expected that it will transfer the files to the Göttingen District Court. You will hear from me again soon.

I am receiving the certificate of inheritance back from Mr. Hische today, which I am enclosing, as you will need it for Gothaer

As you know, in our various letters we have addressed the insurance premiums still payable by you after your husband's death as liabilities of the estate. I refer you to my letter of January 27, 1939, page 6. This would also increase the surrender value of the policy somewhat. I request prompt notification of the amount by which this surrender value should now be included in the settlement. Up to now, this value has been set at RM 2,930.80.']
